One of our regulars and one of the most knowledgeable reggae collectors we know stopped by for an in-store earlier this year. He brought with him some very rare and sought after late 60s and 70s roots and rocksteady 45s. This is one for the original sound system heads!
Love Vinyl's Jake Holloway dropped by for our Brazilian event in the summer and brought with him a ridiculous array of Brazilian gems and rarities, from MPB to disco to jazz and beyond. This record bag is the result of a lifetime of heavy digging, this is not one to be missed!
Rook welcomed DJ WiLDman to the store earlier this year. He's played at BBE Store, 100 Club and held down a residency at Clerkenwell House, and is currently part of CJC / All Hands on Deck crew, based in Bristol. For his visit to Rook, however, Dan brought a bag of Congolese vinyl dating from the 70s / 80s.
His interest in this genre has stemmed from musical involvement as guitarist with Grupo Lokito and Matondology. The in-store mix features many of the most important Congolese artists and bands including Tabu Ley, Franco, Youlou Mabiala, Bantous De Capitale, Le Peuple, Minzoto Wella Wella, Orch Rumbaya, Bella Bella, Orch Veve and Lipua Lipua.
The first in a collection of videos from our Label Launch Party last summer. In this one Jay Rook takes you through some of the EP tracks, mixed with some disco, house and other afro related bangers. These were all filmed by our good friends at Aquifer Film Studios in July 2024.

As part of our Brazil event last month, King Dom (Time Capsule Records) came by with a bag of stupidly rare Brazilian records. These records are the result of a lifetime of heavy digging, this set is not to be missed!
Our Brazilian event at the shop went off without a hitch. We've got tonnes of great DJ sets to go up over the next few weeks, but we're starting with Jay Rook's set from the shop racks. What's left of these records are all available to buy at Rook!
Come in to the shop or drop us an email at info@rookrecords.co.uk for details.
Host of Beatsource Tech on DJ City TV, Beatport and Beatsource affiliate and general DJ technology geek Mojaxx joined us at Rook HQ. He brought with him some killer hip hop, funk and soul 45s, all expertly blended on our Pioneer S7.
In this Rook Records exclusive mix JOSH FB shares part 1 of his African special. In which the London based selector and founder of local party and record label “Discothèque Tropicale” journeys through a selection of deeper, more listening orientated records from across the African continent. As is in his nature it certainly has party starting elements by the end… but tune in for part 2 soon which will be all about the dance 💃🌍
For our NYC vs Tokyo event in December, Deejay Nye and Infinity from London's Half East Records gang passed by the shop with an 'East meets West' b2b selection of Hip Hop neatly combined with Japanese city-pop and boogie.
Kit Lockey is the co-owner of community station Voices Radio; an avid radio man previously hosting regular shows on the likes of Balamii and Netil Radio. He dropped by Rook last month to spin an eclectic set, from global sounds and afrobeat to hip hop, broken beat and house. You can catch him spinning regular sets on his Kings Cross based radio, Voices.
