 Recorded in 1976 and released the following year as his only album on the Atlantic label, 'Hear & Now' has always stood out in the vast catalogue of American jazz trumpeter Don Cherry. Stylistically, it embraced a massive range of influences from heavy metal to Indian classical music, and while it remains an outlier, it's also one of Cherry's most eclectic and enjoyable records that received extremely mixed reviews at the time. Half a century later, the fluid foray between genres and styles is refreshing and was perhaps before his time in retrospect. There are some really amazing and unique tracks on this record if you're willing to allow yourself to be swept away on the journey Cherry is trying to take you on. This is not your average trumpet jazz LP.
